If it was the other way round, if we were losing by a goal, I wouldn't be in here saying we were out of the tie, I wouldn't think AZ would be saying that either. "I think the tie is very evenly balanced. "When it's a cup competition, it doesn't really matter how you do it, really, the job is to get it done. But we're just off a big win against Manchester United and we've won 2-1 in a semi-final first leg. We've needed it in the games we have in the Premier League. I think we have it through the club, I think we have it through the team and we'll need it. "I hugely believe we've got a big resilience here. They are peaking just at the right time." Moyes: This club has a lot of resilience "It was a big result against Man Utd at the weekend and the win was massive against AZ Alkmaar. The players are starting to get back to where they were last season. But now, they are starting to put some performances together. When there's been desperation for a result they have found one. In recent weeks, when they have needed to get a result they have got it. "I've seen West Ham a lot this season and it has not been great to watch for the most part. It's going to be an interesting tactical battle in Alkmaar, but if you are West Ham you are just delighted to take a lead into the second leg. They like to sit a bit deeper and counter-attack, which they did a lot in the first half of the first leg. Image: Antonio's winner was his 14th goal of the season - his best return for West Ham Our storytellers are Tané, Niclays, Loth, and Ead. I loved that I didn’t need the helpful chapter headings to know which character was speaking. Each is entirely unique, and the voices follow suit. The Priory of the Orange Tree is told from multiple perspectives, spanning the world Shannon has created. I have reviewed Shannon’s other series, ‘The Bone Season’ on Bookstacked before, and so I needed to shout about her standalone novel too. However, I couldn’t resist reviewing it because it is so good. One thing to note: Priory is not a YA novel. Meanwhile, the divided East and West refuse to parley, and forces of chaos are rising from their sleep. Ead keeps a watchful eye on Sabran, secretly protecting her with forbidden magic.Īcross the dark sea, Tané has trained to be a dragonrider since she was a child, but is forced to make a choice that could see her life unravel. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must coneive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction - but assassins are creeping closer to her door.Įad Duryan is an outsider at court. The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. It’s a huge tome, but the story is definitely worth the muscle strain. As a lover of Samantha Shannon’s work, I couldn’t wait to pick up The Priory of the Orange Tree. Louis-Napoleon assumed the title Napoleon III to acknowledge the brief reign of Napoleon II at the end of the Hundred Days in 1815 (see the abdication of Napoleon I in 1815). Bonapartism, as an ideology of politically neutral French peasants and workers (EJ Hobsbawm), was essential in the election of Napoleon I's nephew Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte as President of the Second Republic, and gave him the political support necessary for his 1852 discarding of the constitution and proclaiming the Second Empire. The disturbances of 1848 gave hope to the nascent political undercurrent. After the death of Napoleon's son, the Duke of Reichstadt (known to Bonapartists as Napoleon II), Bonapartist hopes rested on several different members of the family. After Napoleon I's death in exile on Saint Helena in 1821, many of these people transferred their allegiance to other members of his family. Some of his acolytes could not accept his defeat in 1815 at Waterloo or the Congress of Vienna, and continued to promote the Bonaparte ideology. The Bonapartists helped him regain power, leading to a period known as the Hundred Days. Eugène Rouher (1814–1884), French politician and President of the Senate during the Second Empire, was the leader of the Bonapartiste faction after 1871.īonapartism developed after Napoleon I was exiled to the island of Elba. |
